How to Have Your Fave Read Text Aloud — No Recording Needed

By Yutaro SasaoPublished

"I wish my fave would read this line out loud." Having text read aloud in your favorite character's voice is one of the most popular ways to enjoy oshi-katsu. This article explains how to do it without any recording or audio editing, with AITOMO's actual steps and costs.

Three ways to have text read aloud in a character's voice

1. Use character voices (easiest) AITOMO offers VOICEVOX characters such as Zundamon, Shikoku Metan, and Kasukabe Tsumugi, plus UltraVoice, a high-quality voice engine that supports all languages. Just send text and it is read aloud in your fave's voice — no recording, no setup. You can keep chatting, too.

2. Use voice cloning AITOMO's voice replication feature lets you upload an audio file (mp3/m4a/wav) and use that voice for an AI character. Create an original voice from a sample of your fave's voice and use it for read-alouds (Free plan: 10 voices, 7-day validity; Premium Plus: 30 voices, 21-day validity).

3. Use general text-to-speech software Free TTS tools such as VOICEVOX and Ondoku are also an option. They require installation and configuration on a PC, though, and only do read-alouds. If you want full conversations with your fave, a chat-style service is a better fit.

How to get started with AITOMO

  1. Open AITOMO in your browser — no app download needed. Choose "Chat in your browser" on the AITOMO homepage to start right away.
  2. Pick a character and voice — choose from VOICEVOX characters, UltraVoice voices, or a voice you created with voice cloning.
  3. Send the text you want read aloud — a single line or a longer message works fine.
  4. Listen in your fave's voice — neural speech synthesis reproduces breaths and intonation for a realistic read.

What else you can do

  • Sleep-call and morning-call — fall asleep or wake up to your fave's voice
  • Four conversation modes — real chat, roleplay, RPG, and Japanese learning
  • AI image generation — turn scenes from your chats into images

Cost guide

AITOMO is free to start, with 300pt granted at sign-up. Voice messages cost about 14pt (6pt for text-only — the same for either voice engine). You can refill points by watching ads or claiming daily bonuses. See the getting started guide and pricing page for details.

FAQ

Q. Can I try it for free? Yes. The browser version works right after sign-up, and the initial 300pt is enough for plenty of voice chat.

Q. What voices are available? VOICEVOX characters for Japanese (Zundamon and more), UltraVoice for many languages, and voice cloning for custom voices. The credits page lists the speakers.

Q. Can it read longer texts? Since your fave responds by voice to the text you send, longer passages like part of a novel or a letter can be read out in sequence. An internet connection is required.
